Sometimes runners like to dress up on race day. I've been participating in Disney races since 2016, and it's always a lot of fun to dress up for those events. Twice I've had a blast dressing up as Star Trek characters during Star Wars races: once as a Discovery Medical Officer and once as a TOS-Era Starfleet Command Officer.

I was always looking for my next Star Trek costume for running, so I was heartbroken to learn Disney won't host Star Wars races going forward. That won't stop me from themed race costumes, though. Here are some more ideas for easy Star Trek themed running outfits.

Star Trek Uhura Costume Dress

Found on Amazon

This polyester dress would be a great start to a running outfit. You might want to wear black tights or shorts underneath to prevent chafing or have pockets to carry race needs. This dress is made of polyester but doesn't look to be moisture-wicking, so consider wearing this for shorter distance races.

The Next Generation Starfleet Medical or Science Officer Running Costume

Found on Amazon

In The Next Generation, blue Starfleet uniforms were for medical and science officers. This Star Trek rash guard is made of thick, moisture-wicking material. It's made for swimming, so it's meant to have a snug fit. I actually have this top and have used it for kayaking. It would be an easy starting piece for a complete running outfit. Add black bottoms (running skirt, pants, or shorts), and you'll be good to go!

Lower Decks Command Ensign Running Costume

Found on Etsy

Dress up as Mariner, Boimler, or another command-track ensign with this funny cartoon-style Star Trek uniform costume t-shirt. This is a lightweight top made of polyester. Though it's not a technical, moisture-wicking weave, it's light and comfortable to wear. Again, just adding your own black pants or skirt will complete this look. You could dye your hair purple if you're going as Boimler, or add a fun alien prosthetic to your face or body to add some more authenticity to your running costume.

Perfect Race Accessory: Star Trek Running Hat

Add a Star Trek running hat to your outfit for comfort and extra theming. I have this hat in yellow and it was perfect to wear for a race. It's made of moisture-wicking material, has an adjustable strap for a good fit, and comes in three Starfleet colors. Keep the sun out of your eyes or rain off your face when you wear a billed baseball-style running hat like this officially licensed cap in three colors.

Sometimes runners like to dress up for races! I've been running Disney races for a while, and it's always so much fun to dress up for those events.

It doesn't have to been a theme park event to dress up, though. Some races are famous for their costumed runners, like Bay to Breakers. Local races with fun themes were pretty much made for costume runners. And of course it's a lot of fun to dress up for holiday races, especially Halloween!

For the old Star Wars themed race weekends at Walt Disney World, I would typically run all three events. For the 5K I liked to be a little bit cheeky and dress up as a non-Star Wars character. Star Trek always felt like a great option and it was especially memorable when interacting with characters and members of the 501st on the course -- lots of those 501sties are Trekkies, too!

During the Rival Run 5K in 2019, I dressed up as a TOS-era command officer. (You can read my race report here: 2019 Star Wars Rival Run 5K). Here's what you'll need to recreate this comfortable and easy yet unmistakable running costume outfit look.

Yellow Star Trek TOS-Era Long Sleeve Costume Top

Found on Amazon

I wore this officially licensed long sleeve Star Trek costume shirt for the race. The command officer shirt is made of polyester, but it's not very lightweight or moisture-wicking. It was great for a 5K, especially this one, since it was a cool and rainy morning. I might wear this for a slow 10K too, but for a longer distance, or for actual racing, it might spell disaster in the form of chafing or over-heating.

Black Running Skirt or Running Pants or Shorts

Found on Amazon

For my race, I wore a black SparkleSkirt that I had in my closet already. Any black bottoms would work well with this costume, like this affordable black running skirt with shorts attached.

If you end up liking this particular skirt, it comes in different colors and cuts so you could get more to have on hand for future costume runs.

Yellow Star Trek Starfleet Pattern Running Hat

Found on Amazon

This awesome Star Trek running hat is made of moisture-wicking tech material and comes in all three familiar Star Trek uniform colors (blue and red in addition to yellow). I got the yellow one and it's a great match for the shirt. I like to run in a hat anyway so this was a great find.

Sometimes runners like to dress up on race day. I've been participating in Disney races since 2016, and it's always a lot of fun to dress up for those events.

It doesn't have to been a Disney race for runners to wear costumes, though. Some races are famous for their costumed runners, like Bay to Breakers. Turkey Trots and Christmas races attract a lot of casual runners and walkers, and a lot of fun holiday costumes. And of course it's a lot of fun to dress up a Halloween race!

For the Star Wars race weekends at Walt Disney World, I would usually run all three events: a 5K; followed by a 10K; followed by a half marathon. For the 5K race I liked to be silly and dress up as a non-Star Wars character. Star Trek always seemed like a great option. It was extra fun when interacting with official runDisney characters as well as members of the 501st on the course -- a lot of those 501sties are Star Trek fans, too!

During the Dark Side 5K in 2018, I dressed up as a Discovery medical officer. (You can read my race report here: 2018 Star Wars Dark Side 5K). Here's what you'll need to recreate this fun and easy running costume outfit look.

Star Trek Discovery Costume T-Shirt

Found on Amazon

This sublimated costume t-shirt was perfect for my needs. The Discovery uniform shirt comes in several different colors, including designs for command officers, science officers, and engineering officers (all blue with different detailing).

This is a polyester shirt with sublimation all-over printing so it looks great, but it's not very lightweight and it's not moisture-wicking. It was a relatively cool (for Florida, in April) morning for the race, so I opted to wear a white long sleeve tech shirt under this costume shirt. That gave me the look of wearing a long sleeve uniform top. This way I was also able to keep warm while standing around waiting for the start of the race, and cool once it was time to start running.

White Running Skirt or Running Pants or Shorts

Found on Amazon

For my race, I wore a white SparkleSkirt that I had in my closet already. Any white bottoms would work well with this costume, like this affordable white running skirt with shorts attached. If you go with shorts or pants, make sure they're not see through... or be sure to choose your undergarments wisely!

If you end up liking this particular skirt, it comes in different colors and cuts so you could get more to have on hand for future costume runs.

DIY White Star Trek Discovery DISCO Visor

Found on Amazon

I really like Headsweats visors, so I did a little crafting to make a plain white Headsweats visor into a costume hat for this outfit. I used dark blue felt letters to spell out DISCO, for Discovery, on the front of the visor.
